There are quite a few appealing aspects of being a real estate agent. Being your own boss, making your own decisions, seeing new people and new places. There is a lot to like about the world of real estate.

That said, there are also some common mistakes and questions to be asked. Here are three things in particular that every new real estate agent should know.

  1. Build Relationships with Lenders in the Area

During your time as a real estate agent, you will work with both buyers and sellers. Regardless of which one you deal with, it is important that you begin building a relationship with the lenders within your geographic area.

Those relationships will provide insight on proper loan terms and changes to financing rules. Developing relationships with lenders also allows you to provide insight to borrowers. When you are familiar with lender requirements, you can pass that information along to the borrower. That helps to avoid potential frustration and to smooth the process.

  1. Set Your Schedule

Start by looking at the week and then plan out each day. It doesn’t matter what you are doing, block that time off. Whatever time you have left over during the work day is available to clients. If one proposes a meeting during that time, ask them if they are available at a different time.

The key here is to be organized, especially when it comes to days off or blocked off appointments. Most people don’t work on their time off; real estate agents should not be any different.

  1. Don’t be Afraid to End Client Relationships

Not every client is going to be a good one. Some simply do not have realistic expectations, taking too much time and ignoring advice. Those people have their path and will not deviate. If it differs from your procedure, don’t be afraid to walk away.

Those clients are the most difficult and tend to waste time and resources more than anything else. Walk away and focus on clients who will not waste your resources.
